I had a play around with Airtable Automations over the last few months and it looks very promising. In this video, I go over a use case where I moved my workflows from Zapier and Integromat to Airtable Automations, and compare the workflow choices I made at that time. TIMESTAMPS:

Choose by workflow, not by a ranking

The original example moved profile-update workflows into Airtable. The chapter titles identify an overwrite comparison, not a universal winner. Airtable's current automation guide lists plan-dependent runs and automation limits. Failed attempts also consume runs. The Free plan does not include the Run a script action.

For a profile update, define the record ID and the fields that the workflow owns. Distinguish an omitted field from an intentional empty value. Test both before replacing an existing automation. A blank mapping can erase useful data if your update treats it as a replacement.

Keep an external automation tool when you need a supported integration or recovery path that Airtable cannot provide. Custom API calls may require scripts, credentials, and your own response handling. Estimate monthly triggers, retries, and maintenance alongside subscription costs.

Run one copied profile through each workflow. Compare stored values and failure logs before moving more records. Use the automation tool comparison to evaluate your requirements.
