Webflow or Bubble? Choose a Prototype by Its Requirements
I learned Webflow, Airtable, and Zapier while building Unicorn Factory. Bubble later made me reconsider which parts belonged in a website and which needed application.

WebflowI learned Webflow, Airtable, and Zapier while building Unicorn Factory. Bubble later made me reconsider which parts belonged in a website and which needed application behavior. Choose between them using the prototype's actual requirements.
Brief 1: A public freelancer directory
An illustrative directory needs profile pages, category pages, contact forms, and editable marketing content. Webflow can suit this public publishing layer. Airtable can hold operational records, with a deliberate workflow sending approved content to Webflow.
Check CMS capacity, forms, localization, and extension costs against the actual plan. Do not assume a public CMS provides private customer accounts or booking permissions. Search visibility depends on crawlable content, metadata, performance, and other factors beyond the tool choice.
For a focused version of this approach, review my Webflow marketplace lesson.
Brief 2: A private task application
An illustrative task app needs accounts, private projects, assignments, status changes, and permission rules. Bubble offers application workflows and a database within its platform. Its privacy rules control data access. Hiding an element is not a substitute for those rules.
Test with two users and confirm each cannot retrieve the other's private project. Check workflow behavior and workload usage before estimating the bill. Bubble's pricing includes workload considerations, so complex activity can change costs.
Compare the same prototype
| Requirement | What to test |
|---|---|
| Public content | Create and edit one real page |
| Private records | Try permitted and forbidden reads with separate users |
| Workflow | Complete the same task from start to finish |
| Mobile | Test at 390px, including forms and navigation |
| Cost | Include hosting, seats, extensions, and usage |
| Exit plan | Check data export and dependencies before committing |
Neither tool ensures speed, SEO results, or a complete business system. Keep the prototype small enough to expose the difficult behavior first. Use the five-step MVP guide to define that scope before choosing subscriptions.

Webflow AI Site Builder: My HueSync First Look
I used a fictional Canadian agency, HueSync, to explore Webflow's AI site builder. The first look showed a useful starting layout, followed by editing work inside Webflow. I still needed to review the copy, images, forms, and mobile spacing.
